This is the mobile that Microsoft hopes could topple Apple’s iPhone. The HTC Diamond, which runs on Microsoft software, will go on sale in Britain next month. It has a large touchscreen, 4gb of memory and a new high-speed internet connection that gives broadband-like speeds. It can store thousands of albums and easily access sites such as YouTube to play back videos.

Its manufacturer, Taiwanese company HTC, says it is confident the device can take on the hugely popular iPhone, which is expected to be updated next month. Apple came under fire for charging £269 for its handset. The HTC phone is expected to be far cheaper and may even be offered free with some tariffs.
